Question
So I have to give a speech following the Monroe format and I need help with the action step. I plan on talking about why businesses should offer free gym memberships to all their employees. This would cut down on medical care and such. I have all the stuff I need for this speech except the action step. I am not sure on what I could have my class do to help move this thought along. Any ideas (or multiple ideas) would be greatly appreciated!
Answer
What does your call to action wish to accomplish? A: Businesses should offer free gym memberships to all their employees. I'm guessing if you could somehow expand this problem to include your classmates then you'd be able to actually get them to do something. If you happen to be a tax paying citizen then you could argue that unhealthy employees would put an unnecessary strain on our medical care system and our government and so on... Once people have a reason to do something, then they will be more inclined to do it. Here is what I suggest: -You can't hold the business owners at gunpoint so you will have to resort to more civil and diplomatic ways: Ask people to write letters arguing about the benefits of free gym memberships and then send them to business owners. -They could strike until the business owners capitulate -Maybe they could go and spread the word about your argument (it's quite ingenious actually.. maybe if I run a business some day, I'll implement it) -- distribute flyers or give presentations, etc. Other than these few ideas, I really don't know. I feel that the best way to effect change is to do so without much violence and through telling the bosses about the pros and cons and trying to logically win versus using brute force or even by striking. Hope this helps!
